Roger Williams Zoo
One of my favorite people was passing through town this summer with the family that she is a nanny for. Since she couldn't really get away for 1:1 time with me, she suggested I just come along to the zoo with the whole crew. This was perfect because I had been wanting to visit the Roger Williams Zoo since we moved to PVD. The "collection" of animals was actually quite impressive.
I'm not really one for wanting to see wild animals in captivity but I didn't leave totally depressed about their living situation so that is good! No but seriously, they were really well cared for. The zoo was well maintained, clean, and the environments had been created with the animals in mind first and human needs second. For example, none of the parks beverages are sold with lids or straws because these could end up in exhibits and would be harmful to the health of the animals.
I couldn't believe how funny the gibbons were, how awkward and endearing the giant anteaters were, and how my love for elephants was totally rekindled just by spending five minutes with them. Their trunks just blow my mind. For an adult it hovers around $15.00 and kids are $10.00. This makes a zoo outing cheaper than the movies at Providence Place and a gajillion times more educational. It is also a manageable size. Where I always felt like the Bronx Zoo would take three full days to see because of all the walking, Roger Williams is totally doable in a couple of hours.
