Modern Diner Attempt and Brunch at Doherty's
After a welcome morning in the ocean at RISD Beach (which is only for anyone associated with RISD or Brown) this girl NEEDED brunch. We were out pretty late the night before and a little salt water and some eggs benny were just the ticket. After hearing so many good things about Modern Diner's dreamy diner breakfast, cool ambiance, and landmark status we attempted to get in the door at 11:00am on a Sunday morning. The line was down the stairs into the parking lot, there was no one hostessing or letting patrons know about any sort of wait time, and I was whining. T, in a typical moment of BRILLIANCE, suggested we just blow that clam bake and go next door to Doherty's.
It was almost lunch time and we eat there all the time on a whim. Mostly, we go there for the beers. As luck would have it they have a brunch menu. What a dream! They don't have it posted to their website so it was a total surprise and I was dancing in my seat, I was so happy. They always serve hearty portions and quickly too so we loaded up with eggs benny, french toast, and an omelette between the two of us. I also ordered a Bloody Mary...which came in a pitcher. Needless to say it was very satisfying and the perfect brunch for a hangover and the perfect brunch before a long nap.
