Local 121

A few weeks back my mother and her two sisters were in town with several of my cousins for my sister-in-law's baby shower. Ya got all that? Well basically it was a group of women who tend to get a little on the loud side and who also happen to appreciate the experience of dining out. All are of notable talent in the kitchen themselves which makes it that much more fun to go out to eat all together. They know what they like and they know whats good. So when I was assigned the task of making lunch reservations for our group on a Saturday afternoon I was a little worried that I may make a poor choice. I should never have doubted the recommendations of my co-workers.

We ended up at Local 121 in downtown PVD. It was easy enough to get a reservation for our group and we basically had the whole dining room to ourselves when we arrived but for a few stragglers in the back of the room. The interior was well decorated, clean, chic, and comfortable.

To start we ordered the Nose to Tail Charcuterie which was delightful and we picked it clean quite easily. While we nibbled crostini and house cured ham, our lovely server brought magical drinks. I mean, mine was called the Unicorn which is pretty magical. Of course there were local beers on tap from RI breweries that our party also sampled.

For the main course I think we ended up with one of everything. I ordered a classic grass-fed beef burger with the thought that if there was any leftover, T would enjoy it at home. The dressing on my side salad was light and slightly sweet and I realized halfway through that I was demolishing it. I also demolished my burger so that in the end, there wasn't any left over for T. Oops.

Dessert was naturally my favorite part of the whole affair. We all ordered spoons and shared a maple mousse, a banana flambe torte with a dense buttery crust, flour-less chocolate cake, and hot americanos because the server explained that the cooks had finished the last of her drip coffee. We weren't complaining. It was a decadent end to a local feast.
