Swan Point Cemetery
Being a former student of Religious Studies at a Catholic college may give me reason enough to be interested in cemeteries. I took it a step further when I wrote my senior thesis about environmentally friendly burial practices. Creepy? Dark you say? More like a growing industry with some very Green possibilities that could have a huge impact on how we treat the Earth as we send off our loved ones. I'll save all of that for another time.
This week I saved one of my short runs for the East Side of PVD so that I could quickly tour Swan Point. Edison and I had stopped by the gates a few weeks ago to have a little photo shoot in front of the spring blossoms. No dogs allowed out of respect for the interred.
The landscaping at this cemetery is impeccable. Unfortunately I got in a little bit of trouble with the security guard on my way out because joggers are only allowed between 8am and 9am. It was about 6pm when I went running. Whoops! Regular Summer hours are 8am-7pm April to September and shorten to 8am-5pm in the Fall and Winter months.
There are a number of notable individuals buried at Swan Point. Mostly people relevant to Rhode Island's history, but interesting none-the-less. The views of the water are beautiful and as far as walks go, the roads are wide and the setting doesn't get more peaceful. They also welcome slow bicycles during regular hours.
