School is out
again today because of the weather. I know you must be thinking "does she ever go to work?" and I do, but only when pressed. The snowflakes today are fluffy and about the size of quarters and they are adding up quickly on the ground. Edison and I just dragged ourselves outside to shovel and now he has quietly settled in, soaking wet, in my spot on the couch.

Savor that wet dog smell. |
Yesterday during my lunch break I went to the Salvation Army at 201 Pitman St. and I'm in love. It is going to be one of my new favorite stops for thrift shopping. They have a huge inventory of furniture, a fair selection of children's books (50 cents for a soft cover or one dollar for hard cover), and so many odds and ends begging to be upcycled. I got the feeling that based on its location close to the nicer neighborhoods on the East Side, this Salvation Army probably gets donations that are of a little higher quality. I didn't dive too far into the clothing yesterday because I ran short on time but those hangers were calling my name.

Street parking was a little messy in the snow but totally worth it. |
Another place I wanted to mention was
Teas and Javas in Wayland Square. I took a small caramel latte from here for a spin sometime last week and enjoyed every sip. The clientele seems a little more likely to be a young professional or grad student working on their laptop at a cafe table rather than the middle aged, Summers in Europe kind of crowd I see at L'Artisan. The baked goods at Teas and Javas were mouth watering and there were several towers of fresh cupcakes perched atop the display case, screaming at me to give them a belly to rest in.

It is Love In A Cup. |
Teas and Javas will probably also be a new regular spot for me based on its proximity to my job. Some other new regulars that I'm taking up around the house include filling candles with seasonal edibles.

For Valentines Day, candy hearts. |
Also, these boot toppers my mama made me. They are basically half the length of a leg warmer and just sit on top of my pants or socks. I like them because it is extra insurance that snow isn't going to squeeze into the top of my boots. This is of particular importance when I am wearing my boots over dress pants on my way into work. Also, they are just cute.

Sometimes I roll them over, if I'm in the mood. |
Lastly, I should share that I have a terrible habit of opening the nearest drawer when I open a bottle of beer and just sliding in the bottle cap. As a result I have unintentionally collected a large amount of bottle caps in the kitchen. I do the same thing at my parents house too so they probably have a collection that they don't even know about. I've been trying to come up with DIY art for the guest room to prep it for visitors so I made bottle cap art last weekend. I painted a canvas a peachy orange and then used tacky glue (dries clear) to place beer caps in the shape of a heart. After the glue dried I coated the whole thing with a gloss finish clear spray paint.

Final product on the wall. |
Time for a hot cup of tea I think and maybe some more crafting for the guest room. Happy shoveling!
