Craft Brew Races

This was the first year that the Craft Brew Races organization came to Providence. My parents joined T and I downtown for a 9am registration time and bib pick up at Kennedy Plaza. Then we had two hours to kill until the start of the 5K. We walked over to Small Point Cafe to feed the men and wait it out. My mother and I ran while my Dad, T, and my brother's family watched from Westminster St. The start time was delayed a full thirty minutes because the race organizers had to re-route the runners around construction zones. Understandable and we appreciated them keeping us safe. Since it was also the first year, it was easy to forgive a minor delay. The course was fairly flat and all road running so it was enjoyable.

When the running was done, it was time to drink! The brewers had set up their tasting tents on the skating rink (no ice, it's Summer...) in Kennedy Plaza. I believe there were around twenty breweries represented. Each person got a 2oz plastic cup and received a sample of anywhere from 1-2oz from a brewer depending on the intoxication of the brewer and the time of day. Some brewers handed out heavier pours and others smaller pours. There were snacks to be had also. Cupcakes, cheese, and chips inside the rink and food trucks were lined up outside the rink. We found a few breweries that were old favorites and a few new loves. The energy was awesome, the weather was perfect, and by the time we walked out those 1-2oz tastes had really added up. Definitely worth it. Tickets cost around $50.00 for running and drinking. T snagged his on a Groupon for $25.00. I'm sure we. An anticipate that they will sell out much faster next year. The rink really can't hold any more people then it did this year.

Cheers!
