Independence Day in Lil' Rhody

Despite the fact that the weather reports were terrible up and down the East coast for the 4th of July, I still wanted to do something AMERICAN to celebrate our independence. My big brother took T and I to one of the traditional small town American celebrations happening across the country today...the parade! We went to the Arnold Mills July 4th Parade. It was an 11am parade and since we were expecting terrible rain storms at 2pm, we would just miss the foul weather. It was actually raining for most of the parade but we had an umbrella for three adults and one infant. Cozy!

There were groups of people in colonial garb, always a plus, plenty of politicians, little league teams, and more tractors than a girl can count. The most exciting part of the parade was actually when one of the ancient tractors broke down and had to be rope-towed by another tractor to keep the parade moving. There was minimal candy tossing but probably because of the rain and also because we were at the end of the parade route. I was very excited to see Miss Rhode Island rolling down the street...in heels. Literally, they couldn't prop her up in a convertible with a cute little umbrella?! The poor girl had to romp down the parade route in platforms and a mid-thigh length dress.

The best part of celebrating the 4th was being with people I care about and getting to be there for my niece's first Independence Day, even though she slept through the whole thing.
