West River Cafe

I did a quick stop at the West River Cafe yesterday morning just to see if it was worth further investigation. Most of its appeal lies in its subtle location at 148 W River St. in the midst of boring brick medical center buildings and across the street from a huge USPS lot filled with mail trucks. There is also a Stop and Shop around the corner which is how I initially came to notice the cafe's existence. You can check the menu here if you're interested but its your basic sandwiches, wraps, salads, and coffee drinks. The interior was a little disappointing but maybe my expectations for a "hidden" restaurant were too high. I walked in mid-morning and it must have been post breakfast rush because there really wasn't a crowd.

The space is large enough but I was surprised that it felt like a chain coffee shop since, as far as I know, its not. There was a double sided fireplace that would've been cozy to sit in front of and plenty of seating. There were also a few large televisions mounted around for patrons to watch the news on while they have breakfast sandwiches or salads at lunch time.
I didn't hang around since I was on my way home to Ed but I did get a white chocolate latte that made me feel spoiled and went perfectly with the first snow of the holiday season that was falling outside. Also something that did catch my eye on the menu was that they serve half sandwiches which is always a bonus since really, I usually don't need an entire sandwich.
