Some of my favorite party animals from college helped me enjoy one of the best weekends out and about I've had in awhile. The plan was to congregate in Boston so I headed North as soon as I could. Last Saturday night we used
Uber to get to the North End for your classic Italian dinner. If you live in one of the 50 cities covered by Uber and you aren't using it, you probably should. Boston and Providence are covered by this car service which connects drivers with passengers online or on your mobile device. The bill can be taken directly off your card without you having to swipe it in the car or anything. Every time I've taken Uber its been in a slick black SUV. So basically, Uber makes you feel just a little more glamorous than hailing a cab on a street corner. Lets face it, when you're with a pack of girls dressed up and in high heels, standing on a street corner in the dead of Winter is NOT ideal.
On this particular evening we caught a ride to
Antico Forno located at 93 Salem St. in the North End. Our reservation was at 9:30 so there wasn't a huge dinner crowd left which worked to our advantage since we tend to get a little loud after a couple bottles of vino at the table. Dinner came out almost as soon as we ordered it, service was THAT fast. They probably needed to shut down the kitchen and were annoyed that we were coming in so close to closing time but we were hard to get rid of. Bread and roasted red pepper hummus to start were delicious. Around the table we ordered gnocchi, a linguine special, a shrimp arugula salad, and a couple of Caesar salads. The gnocchi was a little heavier than usual and the arugula shrimp salad was mostly arugula with three shrimp on top but the Caesars were delicious and well portioned. We also had no problem with the extensive wine list. Without dessert and not including tip, dinner for six was roughly $40.00 per person.
After we were swept out the door we headed to
Bleacher Bar located at 82A Lansdowne Street for a round of amaretto sours and 'Gansetts. After ordering a couple of 'Gansetts the guy on the barstool next to mine struck up a light conversation and mentioned that he worked for
Narragansett Beer and thanked me for my business. Love that. He also had a
very impressive beard.

Not the most flattering portrait of me but look at the beard on the 'Gansett guy next to me! |
After finishing our drinks at Bleacher Bar we moved across the street for the main event at the
House of Blues. It wasn't just your average night at HoB, it was an Epic Gay Night. We were a mixed group of friends, guys and girls, gay and straight and all of us had a
blast. There were scandalous barely clad men dancing on small raised stages, a DJ dropping crowd pleasing dance beats, disco balls spinning at top speed hanging from the ceiling, and rainbow confetti falling from the sky.

I can't stop telling people how much fun we had. The people we talked to were all so much fun, our dance moves felt like they were unmatched, and the drink options at the multiple bars were good. When the lights came on and we got kicked out we felt like we were being cheated but we will be back. Nothing like a night out with friends to remind you how much fun you're missing out on every weekend!
