I had a snow day today (whoop whoop) and for good reason, the roads were terrible. Most of my morning was spent shoveling out the drive way, sidewalks, and cars from around our house. I don't know much about burning calories but shoveling snow in zero degree weather has got to be good exercise, right? Needless to say I worked up quite the appetite by lunch time. T had to work so I took advantage of his lunch break and met up with him. The parking ban was still going on until 4pm today, limiting where people were able to park on the street. Don't get me wrong, the parking ban is very helpful for getting the roads plowed. I'm just whining because we had to walk a little further in the bitter cold. We went over to Thayer Street and had every intention of jumping into the first restaurant we came to just to avoid the cold. Luckily we came out on the street right next to
Mike's Calzones which T had before and liked very much.
As soon as we walked in T said he needed to use the bathroom and headed to the back of the deli. The man working the counter regretfully informed us that the pipes were frozen so the bathrooms were out of order. We were very understanding, having had the same issue ourselves just last week. It's the pits. The man suggested to T that if he really needed it there was a bucket in the bathroom that he could use. T clarified as nicely as possible that he was not interested in using a bucket and left to go find a nearby store with a functioning bathroom. Unfortunately Mike's Calzones was not the only place with frozen pipes on the block so T came back minutes later and just had to hold it. To compensate for the lack of bathrooms the servers behind the counter offered us a choice of french fries or mozzarella sticks on the house! How great is that? We went for french fries. They were scrumptious and piping hot which was a perfect contrast to our frozen fingers.

Mine. |
They do have a wide variety of calzones, wraps, and sandwiches but I chose the make-your-own option and asked for pepperoni, ricotta, and pepperoni in my calzone. T went whole hog with the meat-lover's calzone. Both came with sides of marinara. These were very filling and neither of us were able to finish ours. They were good but I needed a ton of napkins to sop up the grease and I'm pretty sure the mushrooms in mine were from a can which I am not a fan of. Besides T's company my favorite part of this snow dayte was our window seats which gave us some great people watching.

Crackin' open a can of Heady Topper. |
I also can't help but mention that T just walked through the door after a long day at work and we are going to finish up our Friday night enjoying a can of Heady Topper from
The Alchemist in Waterbury, VT. Sounds good to me!
