T and his co-workers all had the day off and so did I so we all met up at
Ivy Tavern at 758 Hope St. for lunch and drinks. Since we were meeting up at 12:30pm on a Monday, the bar was empty. Besides our party of 12 there were only three other patrons in the small restaurant. The bar tender was attentive although he didn't have much choice since we were all sitting at the bar top dominating the atmosphere. He was quick to refill drinks and get food orders in to the cook on the other side of the window. There were plenty of TV's for us to watch the replays of yesterday's Pats/Broncos playoff game. Draft choices included local and imported selections and there were plenty of bottles to choose from as well. Between the two of us we had
Wolaver's Organic IPA,
Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale,
Foolproof Barstool, and
Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. To eat, T had the Ivy Tavern Fish Sandwich with fries and loved it. I had a starter portion of the Gringos Ringos (onion rings) with delicious and zippy chipotle aioli.
After plenty of beers T and I headed out. I was not about to leave Hope St. without taking advantage of some of the awesome shops in that area so we crossed the street and popped into
Frog & Toad. This is one of those eclectic little gift shops that you can spend all day in and find a dozen items that you just
have to have. Jewelry, clothes, kitchen accessories, Rhode Island trinkets, and gag gifts are just a few of the gems carried by Frog & Toad.
After Frog & Toad, we stopped at our apartment to pick up Edison and headed up the hill to Prospect Terrace Park, the front of which is located at 184 Pratt St. Watch out for the steep streets on the way up. If you're not used to 45 degree inclines, get ready. Well, I don't know about 45 degrees but those roads are precarious if you're not paying attention. Prospect Terrace is essentially one of the best places to get a gorgeous shot of the Providence skyline.
From the fence around the park you can see all of downtown. I've brought Edison there off leash before even though it isn't entirely enclosed. This time around there was another park-goer with their yellow lab off leash so Ed had someone to play with. The gorgeous neighborhoods on Benefit St. don't hurt the scenery either.
